The 2010 program of Sydney Ideas, the University of Sydney's international public lecture series, will kick start on Tuesday, 23 February, 2010 with a timely lecture from world renowned climate change scientist Dr Michael Oppenheimer.
In this exclusive co-presentation with the University's Institute for Sustainable Solutions,Professor Oppenheimer will discuss how Government policy - at a local, national and international level - needs to catch up with the science behind global warming.
Professor Oppenheimer, a long-time participant in the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and a lead author of the Pick's Fourth Assessment Report, will also discuss the recent controversy surrounding the scientific reporting of global warming.
Michael Oppenheimer is the Albert G Milbank Professor of Geosciences and International Affairs in the Woodrow Wilson School and the Department of Geosciences at Princeton University. Originally trained in astrophysics, he spent two decades with the Environmental Defense Fund (EDF), a US non-governmental, environmental organisation, where he served as chief scientist and manager of the Climate and Air Program.
