The UK makes positive proposals: Will other Governments, including ours, follow?

I was reading the paper with my breakfast on Saturday and was really encouraged to read a potential breakthrough proposal from the UK Government on Friday. The good news is that the announcement by Gordon Brown, PM of the UK, has a central call for rich Governments to create a $100 billion US a year fund.

Can human society evolve to change our economic / environmental way of life to a clean tech base ?

Hi All,



I listened to a very interesting lecture broadcast last week on 'Background Briefing' on ABC Radio National on the overall analysis of climate change crisis and the capacity of and challenge to human society to evolve to change our economic / environmental way of life to a clean tech base etc. The presentation is similar in style of accessibility and dealing with the big ideas as some of Al Gore’s big presentations. Clean jobs - a key to tackling climate change?

One key challenge we face as a world community is the apparent tension between the economy / jobs and the need to avoid catastrophic climate change. The overwhelming number of scientists (e.g. IPCC etc) tell us that we must avoid a key tipping point leading to catastrophic climate change which is a 2 degree Celsius warming.



I find it encouraging reading articles outlining how a move to a new clean energy economy will create many new jobs.
