P-Man I always enjoy your insightful and funny climate rhymes. The highlight for me in this one is your rhyming of 'bog' with idealogue - pure brilliance!! To answer your question - what do we say? I really don't know - it's such a challenge, but I…

A little about me...

Hi, I’m Cara.
I work for Oxfam as a campaigner, and I love it! I get to work with a bunch of truly inspirational people, and every day presents new challenges and opportunities (read: never a moment to check facebook).
At the moment, one of the projects I am working on is the UN climate change e-monitors initiative - I attended the last UN climate chage negotiations in June in Bonn, Germany. Phew! What an experience - you can check out my blogs here and Join the the UN climate change e-monitors group to stay up to date with the latest on the international climate change negotiations.
When I’m not at work you can usually find me surfside with my body board or a good book (though I’m yet to combine the two).
Another favourite activity of mine is browsing op shops, where I can combine two of my passions, garish 80s fashion and caring for our planet in every little way that I can.

Does the Huge China-Australia Coal Deal Square With the Copenhagen Accord?

I just came across a great article in the New York Times - it's rather long, but very interesting and well worth the read!

The article made me feel sad and angry all at once. Australia has just signed its biggest ever coal export contract with China. This contract will provide thousands of jobs and generate millions of dollars fo

I am sure that you have all heard about the tremendous leadership shown by the Maldives in the fight against climate change, but this latest bit of news likely ought to make Australia and other wealthy developed countries blush...

Australia Wins Prize for Being the Worst in Copenhagen

Australia won the No 1 Fossil of the Day on the second to final day (Thursday 17 Dec) here at the Copenhagen Climate Summit for trying to bully its small Pacific island neighbours - such as Tuvalu - that they should accept a 2C target - in order that they disappear under water with rising sea levels.

Watch the "award ceremony" here to see Australia be presented as being the best of the worst on climate.

Hi Cara,
I've sent the message about e-monitoring on to others in our network so I hope it gets some more support.

Hi Cara
Great to see you're back. Thanks for all your hard work in Bonn. There's a lot happening behind the scenes in the Blue Mountains, especially around food sustainability. We are gearing up for the Footbeat Festival at Wentworth Falls 24-25 Oct which is a 350.org event.

Loved the Steve Fielding video you posted! I email him regularly with my views. Of course he never replies! There seems to be a growing sense of frustration and despair at the lack of strong political action both within Australia and internationally. Most people seem to be responding by focussing on what they can do in their own household and community, rather than ramping up their political actions (e.g. relatively poor turnout at the recent Climate Emergency Rally in Sydney), which makes it even more important that organisations like Oxfam speak up on these issues. The newspaper adverts by ACF this weekend are a step in the right direction.
