James Hansen's Witness Statement

This is a good read.Dr James Hansen provided this witness statement in support of an application to reveal the name of the seed funder of the Global Warming Policy Foundation (GWPF) in the UK.  I have reproduced it in full, having previously been given permission by Dr Hansen to use his work to better inform the public by the most effective means.  To access the original article (with diagram), follow this link: …See More

Australia's Energy Security - 24/7 Concentrated Solar Thermal Power plus Molten Salt Storage (CSP+)

"This is the level of technology that should have gone into the Chinchilla solar plant. By choosing outdated linear Fresnel technology, Australia missed an opportunity to invest in renewable BASELOAD power and why? In order to justify the rapidly…"

Muddying the waters?

ABC online today is running an article about the new report by Australia's Climate Commission. In the ABC article, Professor Will Steffen is quoted objecting to the media distortion of scientific data in order to maintain a particular political standpoint

' But climate scientist and commissioner Professor Will Steffen is concerned the science is being muddied in the media by many with no credentials.

"I don't think we have the luxury anymore of climate denialism. We need to…

Letter to the NSW Liberal Party

I wrote the following to Matthew Mason-Cox MLC after receiving a prod from Get-Up to write to a Liberal Party member of the NSW Legislative Council .

Please feel free to use any or all of it in similar letters to one of the twelve Liberal members in the NSW Upper house. If enough people write, we can send a clear message that the proposed changes to NSW solar feed-in tariffs are a betrayal of voter trust and a hideous example of short-sighted policy making.

If they are allowed…

The latest from James E. Hansen and Makiko Sato

This paper is very detailed and worth reading closely. Hansen and Sato make the case that by setting our sights on 2 deg C warming (450ppm), we are going into uncharted territory - even the warmest inter-glacial periods in the planet's long history were not that warm.

Many of us instinctively know this, but have not had the scientific data to counter those who make claims to the contrary. The paper for which I have provided the extract below has been published in arXiv and are, in Dr… Continue

Zero Carbon Australia Stationary Energy Plan 2020

I recently read about the Beyond Zero Emissions organisation and their Zero Carbon Australia Stationary Energy Plan 2020 (ZCA2020), which is a blueprint for Australia to transition to emissions-free energy in all non-transport related sectors (and includes the capacity to provide a proportion of the transport sector needs).

The five elements of the ZCA2020 power generation plan are concentrated solar thermal power stations with molten salt thermal storage (CST+), windfarms, biomass… Continue

Mudman,

Being an anally retentive bitch I have been measuring our daily generation since installation mid feb. With a 2kW system, the maximum we have generated in a single day was 14 kW. We averaged 8.5 in feb, 7.3 in March, 6.5 in April and currently 6 in May.

Michael, I'd love to join your Peak Oil group - the subject has been of interest to me since 2003, when I first came across the concept in the net. It just made complete sense! Since then I believe we have seen the first consequences of depleting oil reserves, in the form of the Sep 08 meltdown of Wall St and the credit freeze. As financial conditions ease and demand for oil rises again, I think we'll see the next stage... count me in!
