I have been interested in environmental issues and the protection of nature all my life and first started worrying about climate change about 20 years ago. However, "life" intervenes and keeps you busy....Since having my two sons though, I have become extremely concerned about their future in a world that could be drastically changed. For this reason, I intend to endeavour to be more proactive and I encourage all other parents out there to do the same. If we can all do a little bit of what we can manage it will add up to a lot, and to many new voices being heard. Don't be afraid to speak out...let friends know the things they can do, even if others get fed up with you getting on your soapbox...don't let it worry you but remember persuasion works better than issuing dictates! I run an environment group for the kids at my boys primary school and although it is small, it means the whole community gets to think more about the environment - the parents learn through their kids. I also work p/t as a sessional tutor and when I had to do brainstorming with my students I used the topic of climate change. I was astounded at their ignorance, but hopefully now they will go off and learn something else by themselves! If we all start talking more about it we will generate a climate for change!
