I found a really cool website that may be of interest to some of you. Here is some information taken from the site.

The Path Less Pedaled

About the Project

The Path Less Pedaled is an exploration of what it means to live outside the lines. In March 2009, Laura Crawford and Russ Roca made the decision to drop out of the status quo and find others around the world who have done the same. Paring down their lives to just what will fit on two bicycles, Laura and Russ are embarking on an extended bike tour throughout the US and beyond – with the goal of connecting with and collecting the stories of people who followed a calling to live their lives in unique ways. Through photos, interviews, sketches, hand-bound books, and an extensive web presence, Laura (an art jewelry maker) and Russ (a photographer) will compile example after example of lives less ordinary – independent artisans and makers, small business proprietors, community activists and more.

Check out the website here.

I love bikes - my fave form of transport, followed by walking and public transport. I ride my bike to and from school every day and everywhere else. I also recently got a road bike and want to get into road racing.

You certainly don't need an expensive bike. My main transport is a second-hand 12 year old hybrid that I picked up for $100. I have probably averaged 80-100km a week on it in this time. Yes I've replaced a couple of bits, including having to weld the frame, but what a bargain.

I've got a few bikes, my favourite one at the moment is an old mountain bike that cost me $2 from our local Tip Shop. : ) With a bit of air in the tyres and a bit of TLC, it now helps me keep up with my new little kelpie dog when I take her for a run along our beautiful Middleton Beach. I also took it with me on a camping trip where it carried

me along some very remote coastal tracks... and it didn't let me down. I occasionally use it for short trips to the shops too - it's great not having to worry about locking it up - if someone wants to steal it... they can have it, I'll just get another one from the Tip Shop!

That's great Penny! Well done. Now that you can change a tyre have you thought about helping others to do the same. If you live in Victoria (this applies to anyone in the I Heart My Bike family) then Bicycle Victoria need more bicycle angels for national ride to work day. It is more about provide support and encouragement for people who are new to the morning bike commute but also to be there to help people with directions, flat tyres etc..

If you or anyone is interested or would like more information you can check our the Bicycle Victoria website by clicking here: Bicycle Victoria

I just wanted to share with you all the joys of my first every solo tube replacment! I'm very impressed with my efforts and am no longer terrified of being stranded somewhere with a flat. Yay for me! :)

Hooray! The Gardiner's creek bike track between Tooronga Rd and Bourke Rd finally re-opened last Friday; 12 months after being closed to enable extensions to the Monash Fwy. A great return to safer cycling by enabling the cyclists to be off the roads and away from the cars that insist on pushing past cyclists dangerously in order to save a few seconds in their journey time.

Now all we need is the over-pass at East Malvern station (also closed because of Monash Fwy extension work) to be re-opened.

Has anyone else noticed an increase in bike-rage since the Tour de France? I'm not sure if everyone is imagining they are in the race, or if they are all just tired from staying up too late watching!

Bikes are the best way to get around the city. They can practically take you on any adventure. I got my little Malvern Star (foudnly known as Stella) from CERES BikeShed and together we have had a wow of a time exploring and communting through this fine city. Not only do bikes keep you healthy and fit but everyone looks good on a bike even the crazy spandex guys with flaming flero. Keep Peddling everyone!
