"The Age of Stupid" current worldwide screenings

Event Description

Oscar-nominated Pete Postlethwaite (In The Name of the Father, Brassed Off) stars as a man living alone in the devasted world of 2055, looking back at “archive” footage from 2007 and asking: why didn’t we stop climate change when we had the chance?

There were a number of screenings mid August for its Australia and New Zealand premiere but due to the fact that its supported by "crowd funding", it often is not shown as many places as desired (I believe) because they don't have an advertising budget so its harder to get it "out there"

After the global premiere, individuals can host their own screenings the following website...
http://www.indiescreenings.net/films/2/ - helps you work out how much you may have to pay for distribution rights - regarding where you may screen the film, how many people, whether Government or Non-Government etc

I saw it for the New Zealand/Australian Premiere where the live telecast equated to only 1% of what a premiere would normally generate in carbon emissions. They used solar power, those attending the screenings were asked to travel there in an environmentally friendly way and the part movie, part doco was amazing.

The movie was made by '“crowd-funding” - selling shares to individuals and groups. Film is therefore completely independent'

'The first successful dramatisation of climate change to hit the big screen' The Guardian

'Every person in this country should be forcibly made to watch this film' Ken Livingstone - The Major of London 2000-2008

Ok, I misused the webtool and actually commented to myself (stupid!). Here it goes.

I projected the film twice: on the 23rd of oct. (350.org) and on the 9th of dec., where 45 and 15 peoples came to the first and second presentation, respectively. I organised a debate for the first presentation, which wen´t quite well. In between the 2 showing, I bought the DVD, projection rights for 26 peoples and gave an extra donation. The advantage of the DVD is that spanish subtitles are available (30 languages in fact), which is relevant here since few are fully bilingual.

By the way, the french ecologist Nicolas Hulot will soon release a film witha a similar theme. I hope his DVD (to come out in february) will also be multilingual. If it is, I will probably organise a projection (or more) of this film: Le syndrome du Titanic.

One film that is very inspiring by its esthetic and les brainy that these two is that of HOME, which you probably know already. I showed it to my students in my AGW course and it was very much apreciated. I belive it is still free by internet.

It seems that my comment has been cut out. I mentioned a french film by Nicolas Hulot that should come out in 2 months. About The Age of Stupid I had 45 and 15 people in the 2 representations, respectively.

I organised a presentation of the film in Mexico (9th Dec.). I bought the projection rights from Indie Screening.

Anna if I want to get up at 5.00 to watch the movie online do I need to have a password to watch it? I tried the 'test' of the webcast video streaming and it prompted for one?
