Well, I think we all know that talk has not been working in the fight against climate change and I doubt it will work to stop this coal mine. In my opinion, if people really want to stop this mine they need to take direct action to do so. This migh…

Thanks Takver! It's really helpful to read perspectives from such a range of sources, and to remind ourselves that BOTH govt and opposition are completely failing to see the need or the opportunity for making a real contribution to a safer climate.

Why create this site?

We are all feeling the effects of climate change. Whether it’s reduced rainfall or floods in Australia, drought in Uganda, increasingly severe cyclones in Bangladesh, or sea level rise and storm surges in the Pacific. The capacity for communities to maintain livelihoods and to grow food is being hampered by climate change.

Coalition Climate Policy just "tinkering at the edges" say academics and scientists

While the politicians debate 5% emissions reduction under Kevin Rudd's Carbon Pollution Reduction Scheme or Tony Abbott's incentive based Emissions Reduction Fund, it may be instructive to go back to what the scientists say we need: 25-40% reduction in emissions by 2020 for a reasonable chance to avoid dangerous climate change and stay under 2 degrees warming.

"The good news", according to Peter Cosier, Director of the Wentworth Group of Concerned Scientists, "is that th

Black Orchid from Bimblebox Nature Refuge Friends of the Earth in Brisbane, Australia have described the proposed Waratah Coal Galilee mine, set to become the world's largest coal mine, as another nail into the coffin of our climate. “One Person, One Share” of the Atmosphere

This is a very interesting article written by my favourite utilitarian philosopher Peter Singer. The argument that he makes about principles of fairness in this essay is very important to the Climate Change debate.

My first introduction to Peter Singer came with the reading of his book Animal Liberation, back in 1991, which greatly influenced my views on the issue of animal rights. Three years after reading that book I found myself serving as a director of Florida Voices for Anima… Continue

NASA says, You listen: The 2000s were the hottest decade on record

I was never very good at mathematics or science at high school so the graph down below is a little bit of a mystery to me. But I can see one thing, as the little blue and red lines go up... it's probably not good news.

I was reading… Continue

Australian Government sets minimum climate goal - tell them it's not good enough

STOP PRESS – 4.50pm Wednesday 27 January: The Australian Government has just announced the targets it has submitted to the UN of between 5 and 25%. Even the highly conditional 25% target will not avoid dangerous climate change. We have just updated our lobby letter to Climate Change Minister Wong asking her to urgently reconsider the target submitted.… Continue

Copenhagen was a cop out

Copenhagen was a cop out where the rich beat up the poor-
Made a few sappy statements, but put nothing into law-
Climate change was mentioned but no agreement made-
There was no one pouring champagne, only flat lemonade-

Meanwhile in Bangladesh the floods are coming down-
People losing homes, but keeping the moral high ground-
While out in Africa, all the people shout-
“Stop your endless pollution! Stop the endless drought!”-

It’s inevitable that one day, our leaders have to act-
With all the… Continue
