Why create this site?

We are all feeling the effects of climate change. Whether it’s reduced rainfall or floods in Australia, drought in Uganda, increasingly severe cyclones in Bangladesh, or sea level rise and storm surges in the Pacific. The capacity for communities to maintain livelihoods and to grow food is being hampered by climate change.

Women Rights and Climate Crisis

Every year on 8th March, world celebrates International Women’s Day. Many of us try to think and analyze the relationship of societal structures and respect to women rights. When societies violate the rights of women, we cannot imagine a true sense of development. Women being the 51% of population have always remained less fortunate to exercise their basic rights. We particularly see this where men dominate decision making at the household, community and broader level. Gender sensitivity and gen… Continue

Dear Climate Trackers,

Apologies for our radio silence over the past few weeks, while we haven’t been active blogging on here, we have been very busy trying to figure out the big post Copenhagen question: what next?

Sigourney Weaver highlights threat from Ocean Acidification in Video Documentary

Just finished watching The Acid Test: The Global Challenge of Ocean Acidification short documentary on Ocean Acidification produced by the US based Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC). It explains the issue and connection with global warming and climate change - but a little too simply for my preference - but the videography and production is excellent. 21:35 long. The actress Sigourney Weaver does the narration in this doco. For something a bit more in depth see marine chemist

climate change on the back burner?

CLIMATE change has slid down the order of election priorities with the government to dedicate next week in Parliament to gaining a double dissolution trigger on health.

Parliament resumes next week and the government has made its top Senate priority debate on the bill to means test the 30 per cent private health insurance rebate.

The measure, worth $1.9 billion to revenue over the next three years, was blocked by the Senate in September. The opposition has vowed to block it agai

Australia, China, Coal, and Responsibility

Climate sceptic short on facts and credibility

By Professor Ian Lowe

CHRISTOPHER Monckton was paid handsomely to share with us his strange views about climate change in Noosa on Saturday.

He has no scientific background.

Like any citizen, he is entitled to ask probing questions about climate change and expect clear, honest answers.

But he is not qualified to pronounce on climate science.

He was quoted in this paper as saying that “the truth is” that there has been no g

Does the Huge China-Australia Coal Deal Square With the Copenhagen Accord?

I just came across a great article in the New York Times - it's rather long, but very interesting and well worth the read!

The article made me feel sad and angry all at once. Australia has just signed its biggest ever coal export contract with China. This contract will provide thousands of jobs and generate millions of dollars fo
